Hello parents, families and kiddos!

Welcome to the 2024-25 school year! This year you will find updates as to what is happening in the Lower-El Art Studio with Miss Emily! You will have a chance to see what we are doing weekly, gather information about artists we are looking at, techniques we are trying, and so so much more!  We will also be connected to information about upcoming events, needs in the art room and ways that you can support the ARTS in your home. 

                                                              

For those of you who have never had a child in my class, allow me to formally introduce myself. My name is Emily Bawol. I am a mother, artist, art educator, and art therapist. I have two daughters, also in AAPS with me (Pioneer and STEAM). I am a firm supporter of nurturing a child's sense of WONDER as they grow, and truly believe that creativity and art-making specifically is a very important language which children speak in the world. I am a TAB teacher, which means that I support TEACHING for ARTISTIC BEHAVIORS within the studio as a means of helping all students to develop their creative voice as they grow as artists and simply as humans in the world. 

I am truly excited about what this year's art adventures in the studio will bring. Thank you in advance for supporting your children as they grow and explore as artists with me!

 September 24, 2024 Hello everyone! We have been so busy in the art studio the past couple of weeks! We are working hard to build our sketchbooks that we will be using in each class as a place where we will begin ENVISIONING different potential ideas which we will bring to life through the materials in our studio! Right now we are still in the beginning stages of our EXPLORATION, as we are doing a whole lot of learning about how artists act in the WORLD, but it all starts with how we treat each other in the studio day to day.  We are also continuing to create connections between literature and our art! IDEA Generation in the ART STUDIO!

We talk LOTS in the studio about IDEAS, and where we as artist's can find them. We are learning that IDEAS come from things that we.... As artists in the studio, we have LOTS of opportunities to learn and grow around each of these possible spots to bring our ideas to life! We have lots of THINGS we can observe in the studio, which means we LOOK at things that can inspire our ideas. We talk about how POWERFUL our imaginations are, and dream up what could live in our imaginary worlds. We look at lots of artwork that is inspired by telling a story about how someone FEELS. We also see lots of artwork that tells a story about memories from someone's life! We learn about these things in little bits, and then combine these lessons with learning HOW to use materials, so that we might be able to really help our IDEAS grow!
